You don’t always need to be fast to be strong

Inspired by some great music I listened in the last few weeks I decided to put together a selection of the best and slowest songs from the recent years. I believe this is really one of the heaviest things you might hear for a while. The tracklist features the best stoner doom and psychedelic sludge bands and everything is mixed as an interrupted flow of heavy sounds. The full list of featured artists is given below (some of the bands have been also included in the recent selection of the best doom of the year):

Aluna, the British metal band whose music is deeply inspired by folklore, magic, mythology and nature. From their most recent album, Solennial, I’ve taken the wonderful track named Light of Winter.
Cobalt, the American black metal duo which released last year one of the best albums of the decade, named Slow Forever. This is the only band of the playlist which contributes with two songs: the title track and the fantastic song named Elephant Graveyard, which in my humble opinion was the best metal song of 2016.
Conan, the British heavy metal band from Liverpool whose style has been defined by many as caveman battle doom. I’ve selected for the mix the beautiful song Crown of Talons from their 2014 album Blood Eagle.
Dopelord, the Polish stoner doom quartet whose last album, Children Of The Haze, is an oppressively slow and psychedelic trip into heavyness. The song selected for the mix is Reptile Sun, the closing track of their last LP.
Lowcaster, the band of Californian metallers who have published an interesting debut album, The Vapor Sea, which is influenced by many different genres: from doom to thrash metal, from hardcore-punk to psychedelic rock. The band is appearing in the mix with the song Ghost Lights, that is maybe one of the most convincing tracks of their LP.
Fistula, the controversial sludge metal band from Ohio which has released in the last years a bunch of albums of great emotional impact. They are present in the compilation with the 13 minutes long Interlude, taken from their beautiful 2014 album Vermin Prolificus.
Ordos, the magnificient Swedish stoner-doom band with a beautiful vintage style inspired by Kyuss and Black Sabbath. The album they released on last January, House of the Dead, is an incredibly good one, and I’ve taken the title track for the mix.
Paradise Lost, the British legendary band considered by many as the pioneers of the gothich-doom genre. They contribute to the mix with Until the Grave, a track from their forthcoming LP Medusa.
